Deep Thoughts In A Shallow World

Poems, Thoughts, Musings

Four-Line Animal Poems 2

The dog it comes in many shapes,
Types and colours and sizes.
And when you take them for a walk,
They’ll leave you small surprises.
~
The fish is often gold and small,
A memory of two seconds.
It swims around inside its bowl.
A memory of two seconds.
~
A hamster’s cheeks have little pouches,
They’re used for storing food.
Don’t try this for yourselves my friends,
Unless it’s chocolate pud.
~
The guinea pig’s not really a pig,
Nor are they all from Guinea.
Instead they are a bit like gerbils.
Nut rounder and less mini.
~
In writing a poem about a baboon.
There’s a thing I won’t include.
Their bottom shiny, big and red.
That would be much too rude.
~
The noise or sound a rabbit makes,
Is an answer that I seek.
They don’t moo or neigh or bark or oink.
I think that they might squeak.
~
The mouse, a rodent small and quick.
Is said to feed on cheese.
I’m sure they prefer cheddar,
To Goudas, Jacks and Bries.
~
Rats tend to get a very bad press,
It’s something I don’t find fair.
They’re smart and big and strong and quick,
Like mice with darker hair.
~
The cow it is a noble beast,
With hair as soft as silk.
And when you want to have a drink.
You squeeze them and get milk.
 ~
With wool so soft and dry and warm
Very useful is the sheep.
You can also count a flock of them.
When you want to get to sleep.
~
Goats can’t swim as well as sharks.
Nor dig as well as moles.
They don’t run fast like cheetahs do.
But they’re great at fighting trolls.
~
Horses are used in races,
They’re ridden by a jockey.
They’re also used in polo.
A kind of mounted hockey.
~
My only experience with elephants
Is on telly or in zoos.
But I know that they have big ears and trunks.
And tusks that come in twos.
