Four-Line Animal Poems
I know several different ducks,
None of them called Jim.
Few of them can skateboard,
But all of them can swim.
If only all the squirrels,
Were running on the ground.
Instead of always in the trees,
Where they are hard to found.
A water vole came swimming,
Fastly cross a lake.
If a water vole has an engine,
Then I know it is a fake.
The foxes, it is said,
Have tails they call a brush.
I think they use it to clean their holes,
When nighttime brings its hush.
Australia’s bears, the koalas,
Are very nice to see.
But if you get up close to one,
You’ll find they smell of pee.
If you go down to the woods today,
You’re sure of a big surprise.
But there are no bears in Britain,
That song’s a pack of lies.
I see a pair of moles over there,
It is said that they are blind.
But because they live deep underground,
I am sure they do not mind.
The crocodile is a fearsome beast,
All greeny, snappily and scary.
You say that they live far away,
I hope you will be wary.
On swimming in the sea one day,
I happened upon a shark.
I found it quite unlike a dog,
With a bite far worse than its bark
.
The shark it cannot speak you see,
But merely makes a bubble.
And if you meet a hungry one,
You’ll find yourself in trouble.
In certain woods in Borneo,
Orang-utans are there.
I wonder are they ever mocked,
For having ginger hair?
The giant sloth lives upside down,
In trees, where he does dwelly.
He stays so still and hangs so long,
That moss grows on his belly.
The Japanese snow monkeys,
Spend all their time in pools.
They never go to offices,
To shops, the bank or schools.
Compared to its giant cousin,
The red panda is small in size.
But it has a very stripy tail,
And rings around its eyes.
The panda only eats bamboo,
Without it, it gets thinner.
Which makes them very hard to take,
To a restaurant for dinner.
The meerkat’s not a cat at all,
They eat neither fish nor mouses.
Instead they stand up straight and look,
And live in subterranean houses
.
Some things I know about giraffes,
Like blue tongues, long necks and such.
They also have small tufty horns,
Those don’t seem to do so much.
Cats are said to have nine lives,
It’s something I’ve not tested.
They jump and eat and run and play,
But only once they’ve rested.
